It's fair to say we live in a very quiet part of the world. The common perception is there are more sheep than people here! When they filmed Tomb Raider here a few years ago they had to digitally edit them all out because it was meant to be China!
I like it this way. Having moved from a large, noisy European Capital city, at first I thought I had died coming here, then gradually I cam to appreciate the beauty, much healthier air and out door lifestyle for my family.
Now my designer suits and summer dress suits are collecting dust in the attic and I have traded these for Wellies, a raincoat, hiking trousers and boots!

So as you can imagine, there was quite a fuss when we heard that the Olympic torch was coming to North Wales! It started today in Bangor and ended up in Chester. All the chiuldren were either taken to watch by their schools, or allowed out /off to watch it come through.

We were fortunate, in the respect it came right past the end of our road, so we could just all walk up to watch it. It was lovely to see the streets all lined with flags and banners. The lady from the council went into over drive with Mair and Ella's school and gave them so many things they could barely hold them.

Jono and Mair were beyond excited, as the whole event had been build up to epic proportions by their teachers, the teens were less than enthusiastic. I tried to explain what a rare thing this was, that it would only ever happen once in their lifetime and it would be something they could tell their children in years to come. They still looked unconvinced, more excited that Ollie Muirs is coming to sing in July than this event!

Martha walked up with me to meet Abie and Glenn, and stand with Mair, Ella and their school. Bella sadly missed it as she was sitting a GCSE exam, Luke had finished his exam so watched with his friends near his school where the flag was going for an hour, Susie and the rest of the sixth formers lined the outside of the school.
I think the children all enjoyed the lorries, vans, police cars and motor bikes more than the actual torch! The police went right up to them beeping their horns and talking to them all.

Finally the torch bearer past us, and it was Georgia, who we know from church and also, Luke's small claim to fame was they went out together a couple of years ago! I was surprised how little they actually had to run. It was great to watch and to be part of, even Martha got into the spirit as Georgia approached!

Bella was disappointed she had missed it, Luke was embarrassed that Georgia called out his name, although secretly pleased that his friends saw! (bit of street cred), and Susie was pleased she was featured on BBC TV and really got into the spirit with all her friends. One of her teachers told them that his girlfriend had been one of the runners and today he is bringing into school her torch (they are all allowed to keep their torch and tracksuit) for everyone to look at and hold.

Ella and Mair had a fantastic time. I hope they both will remember it. The have spent days learning about the Olympics, as has Jono who has had to research all the history for homework these past few weeks. They have made flags and medals and torches to keep.

I am so glad the Olympic Torch came to our town today.
